Elkins Knights beat Dulles Vikings for their second victory 44 to 42
Elkins Knights won their homecoming game, 44-42 to the Dulles Vikings putting them 2 in 4 in district. With Dulles now 1 in 6, chances of them going to playoffs are not likely to happen this year.
With the Knights switching their starting quarterback Broderick Thomas as a running back, for the majority of the game, and placing Myles Duvall as their quarterback, he gave the Knights something to cheer about in the stands.
Dulles played hard in the first quarter of the game as quarterback, Tucker Morrow rushed for an unexpected touchdown putting them in the lead, 7 to 6.
With 29 seconds left in the first quarter, acting quarterback Duvall made a sharp pass to Broderick Thomas as he took it in for a touchdown, with the extra point by Brian Harclerode, the Knights were up 13 to 7.
Towards the end of the first half Elkins? defense stepped up as Halston Hayes intercepted Morrow?s pass, intended for wide receiver Charles Mouton, at the Dulles 27 yard line. Despite the mishap Dulles? offense responded with the last touchdown of the half with an 18 yard touchdown by Mouton.
At the start of the second half with Elkins in the lead 23 to 14, Beau Burkhalter intercepted a pass from Dulles quarterback Tucker Morrow giving Elkins receiver Jolly Jordan an open opportunity to run a 74 yard touchdown.
Not to be outdone, the Viking offense snapped back with a touchdown run by wide receiver Grant Merritt.
With the score now Elkins 30, Dulles 36, Elkins? Broderick Thomas ran in a touchdown tying the game 36-36. With the pressure on kicker, Brian Harclerode to kick the extra point, Harclerode delivered with a powerful kick.
With the intensity of the game rising, the Viking?s offensive line tightened as Mouton ran down the field for the last Dulles touchdown of the night.
With 40 seconds remaining in the game Elkins? Broderick Thomas took it from the 4 yard line to the end zone ending the game as a Knight Homecoming victory.
Final score ? Elkins 44; Dulles 42.
